Because

Hi everybody,

I have a question. When I was in high school my english teacher who was also living in England for a long time, told us that we should not use 'Because' at the begining of the sentences. Is that right, because whenever I start writing an essay or whatelse I always wonder if I should write it at the begining or the the middle after the comma.

What is your advice?

Thank you in advance for your respond.

  • [/nq] Use because at the beginning of a sentence if it is necessary or desirable to do so.
  • There is no specific prohibition on putting it at the start of a sentence, nor is there anything incorrect about it.

According to some ****-retentive English teachers, you should. But I agree that writing it as one sentence makes little sense.

A compromise would be to change th

I don't think I'm a member of the grammar police, but I do teach my third graders to avoid using because at the beginning of sentences. They are much more likely to write complete sentences when they express themselves without it.
