Beatifying and canonizing

What is the difference between "beatifying" and "canonizing" ? Do the both mean "granting sainthood" ?

I believe that beatification means you're known as 'Blessed'; whereas canonization means you're a 'Saint'. Sainthood outranks Blessedness. MrP
