be/are

It is imperative that computer passwords be kept confidential.

Can I replace be by are?

If I can, which word is commonly used?

Thanks

Hi LiJ

Both verb forms are correct. Be or should be (BrE) gives the impression that keeping computer passwords confidential is important to you.
