bear with me

Hello,

1.  I wonder if I use the underlined phrase below in the correct sense.  According to my dictionary, it means be patient while I do something.  I don't think the "while I do something" part is appropriate for the example.  Even so, do you think the phrase has been used correctly and naturally?

Please bear with me as I don't speak English very well.

2.  If I've used the phrase in the wrong sense, would you please suggest another word or phrase for this:

Please _____ as I don't speak English very well.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, guys, for your helpful responses. I just wanted to confirm if I used the phrase in the right sense.

The only problem with it is that it's a horrendously overused expression which can become maddeningly annoying.

I hate it!

Thanks, Rover, for sharing your thoughts.

What would you suggest is another way of saying it so as not be one of those overusing the expression? I would really appreciate your suggestion.

'Just a minute.'

'I'm looking it up.'

'Just waiting for my computer to boot up.'

'Sorry to keep you waiting.'

Thank you, Rover, for your suggestions. However, I'm looking for a specific alternative expression for my original example:

Please bear with me as I don't speak English very well.

1. How do I convey exactly the same message without using the overly used expression above?
2. I'm thinking of sentences like the following. Do you think they are OK?

Please

Please be patient with me as my English is not that good.
Please excuse my English as I'm not conversant with it.
Those are excellent alternatives.

Also 'Sorry my English isn't all that good'.
