Like in a chess text, 'Bearing the needs of your bishops in mind, you should try to place your pawns and bishops on squares of opposite colors.'

Here it means 'with regard to'?

Thanks in advance!

"Bear in mind" means "remember" -but stronger, like a warning. If you don't keep this in your thoughts, there will be problems!

The expression uses "bear" to mean "carry"---carry it in your mind. So, consider it at all times.
