bear / delivered / gave birth to a child (baby)

My aunt -----.

a) gave birth to a son

b) delivered a son

c) bore a son

What do English people say when they want to say their mother/aunt etc has had a new child? What is the natural wording?

had a boy. a is okay, but to me, it emphasizes the process of giving birth, not having a son. b sounds like she was the doctor who delivered the baby.

  • b sounds like she was the doctor who delivered the baby.
  • c sounds almost Biblical and not at all natural.
  • You will find things like "They were married and she bore him three sons" but mostly you will find that in older literature.
