Be + Ving/V/ to verb

Hello.

1-) The first thing was to make coffee.

2-) The first thing was making coffee.

3-) The first thing was make coffee.

Which one of them is correct?

I asked a similar question a few week ago.

All I do is make coffee.

All I do is to make coffee.

So according to this, I think 1 and 3 are correct, not sure though. Would you mind helping me out with this problem?

Top answer

All I do is to make coffee. So according to this, I think 1 and 3 are correct, not sure though. In this example you have 'do'.

  • All I do is to make coffee.
  • So according to this, I think 1 and 3 are correct, not sure though.
  • In this example you have 'do'.
  • That makes a difference.
  • So you can't conclude that 1 and 3 are correct just because these examples with 'do' are correct.

Only 1 seems possible to me.

But both 1 and 3 would be correct
