Hi Members

We (were studying/studied) while he was watching television.

He (was phoning/phoned) while we were having dinner.

Which ones in the brackets on the sentences would be correct?

Thanks

Which do you think, SSY? The past continuous is used for an action of long duration which may not be completed within the context, while simple past is a relatively short and completed action.

my knowledge is that they(past or past continous) can be used in different situation on the sentenses. Am I right?

No, I don't think so. I have just explained how each is used. We are making no progress here. Which do you choose?

We (were studying/studied) while he was watching television.

He (was phoning/phoned) while we were having dinner.

I thought that the sentence with underlined would be right.

They are possible, but the first one more probably indicates two durational events that are happening at the same time. Your second choice is correct.
