Be sure

Hi.
What does 'be sure' mean in:
"When you advance your pawns, be sure they cannot fall under attack."

How does it differ from 'make sure'?

Thanks in advance!

"Be sure" and "make sure" are very similar. I would say that "be sure" means to check your memory, while "make sure" means to actively check on the subject.
