Be supposed to

Would you please tell me which is the correct verb tense?

1. He was supposed to [meet, have met] Mr Bishop at the airport two hours ago, but he didn't.

2. Sam was supposed to [work, have worked] tonight, but he just called in sick.

3. Sam [is] supposed to work tonight, but he just called in sick.

Thank you very much.

1. Both are correct, but "meet" is better. "have met" is, how shall I describe it, fastidious somehow.

3. Again, both correct. "was" may be marginally better.

CalifJim,

I saw this question and left it alone, for fear of making a mess of it. My answer would have been "meet" when I speak, and "have met" when I write.

I like your answer.
