The sparkling white snow on top of the mountains can be seen for a long distance.

The sparkling white snow on the top of the mountains can be seen from a long distance.

Hi,

I think the second of the above two versions sounds more sensible. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

The first is a stand-alone example from an English magazine for my students, so I have to make sure if it's really wrong. If yes, I'll tell my kids to correct it.
