You mean you're talking to someone on the phone, and you need to put them on hold?

I would say "I need to put you on hold [for a few minutes]. Is that OK?" or "I'm sorry, I have to put you on hold [for a little while]." or "Sorry, I need to put you on hold now", in order of decreasing politeness.

In the States, when they are very busy, they say, "Can you hold?"

Note that we say'(tele)phone call/conversation' rather than 'telephonic conversation'.
