"be not done"

Hi,

Is the phrase "be not done doing sth" an informal expression (e.g. "he is not done painting his master piece yet") or is it readily acceptable even in formal writing?

, but I don't know if we could use the structure 'to be done' without 'with' as you've used in the example "he is not done painting his master piece yet". Let's us wait for an expert's reply.

Hi,

I hear this 'to be done' often, but with 'with', eg, are you done with the assignment given to you yesterday?, but I don't know if we could use the structure 'to be done' without 'with' as you've used in the example "he is not done painting his master piece yet".
