Be nice if we could.

Hi,

Following is an excerpt from English drama "Luther". What does the underlined "Be nice if we could" mean?

Does it mean, (A) "It would be nice if we could" or (B) "You have to behave yourself in order for us to be able to detain people on suspicion of crimes yet to be committed"?

- Do you know what she could do? To me? To Zoe?

- I know what you say she can do. I also know we can't prove what she already did, and you can't detain

people on suspicion of crimes yet to be committed. Be nice if we could.

- So what do I do to stop her?

- Bring her in the right way.
