Be->might be / had been -> might have been?

She thinks that I am a student.
->She thinks that I might be a student.

She thought that I had been a student.
-> She thought that I might have been a student.

Is this okay to use might have been for the guessing version of had been?

No. That is not the interpretation that comes to mind.

If I actually heard a sentence with that sequence of tenses, I would take "might" as "maybe ... would", thus:

I was going to ask the professor a question, but I wasn't sur
