Grammar

be located

I have a question about the usage of "be + located". It is usually used to tell someone where something is located.

For instance,

The company is located in Mumbai.

In above example sentence the agent is hidden. It can be omitted. No doubt it's "someone(who maybe the boss of the company)" wished to locate the company in Mumbai.

On the other hand, I can also hear people saying,

>>Where are you located in?

>>I am located in Mumbai.

If it's a passive voice sentence, then what is the agent here? Or is it a past participle adjective that tells us about state.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Harry

harry1999The company is located in Mumbai.
First of all, in is located, located is not verb and thus it is not passive voice.

Here located is adjective, and is located together means something exists in a place, in this case the company.

Yes, thanks Philip for the help.

The preposition is not required there at the end of the question.

I think it can be both past participle or adjective.

The company is located in Mumbai by my boss' relative's workers.

Here it is acting as a passive voice.

The company is located in Mumbai.

It can be modified.
