Grammar

Be + -ing + for + a period of time

Hi.

Could you tell me whether I can say like "I was reading the book for 2 hours."?

Or should I say as "I had been reading the book for 2 hours."?

I would like know whether I can say like the first expression in every day conversations even if it were not perfectly correct in terms of grammar.

Thank you.
