Why is "be good" used while bidding goodbye? Is it same in the sense "God bless" is used?

"Be good" is very informal, somewhat akin to "stay out of trouble" or the more humorous "don't do anything I wouldn't do". "*** bless" invokes the divine and is a little more formal.
