I finished my homework.

Are they exactly the same meaning? Now they are...after deleting 'with' in the second sentence.

Thanks,

"I finished my homework" seems to emphasize, "I did all that was necessary to complete all the homework."
"I'm finished with my homework" seems to emphasize, "I am now free to do other things."

They both mean basically the same thing.

Danyoo and CJ - there are three possibilities:

1) I am finished with my homework.

2) I finished with my homework.

3) I finished my homework.

The original poster asked about 1 and 2, but you both answered about 1 and 3 -- does that mean you think #2 is incorrect or unlikely? I think I would use #2 -- "I finished with my homework early, so I was able to look at E

I have just thought that after reading the posters.

1) I am finished with my homework---It is "be + pp" = passive voice (stative )

2) I finished with my homewoke---it is "active voice"emphasis the action-finish.

3) I finished my homework---it is also "active voice"--but without " a prep (with).

Now, I got a new question--with a prep, without a prep. C

Q. "Hey, how come you're on the computer? I thought you had homework."

A. "I finished with my homework."

Don't you think that works? I'm really not sure myself that it's grammatically correct, but I definitely find it natural. It doesn't sound wrong to me.

Hi,

I am going intangent with the focus of your reply but why people use "homework" and "homeworks" differently as I think they do?

Thank you

Hi, khoff!

I have to say that "I finished with my homework" does indeed sound wrong to me!
It seems to be leaving out something. "I finished (all I had to do) with (regard to) my homework", or some such word salad.
