Be considerate of others

Hello,

I saw a notice from the manager. He asked people not to smoke in front of the entrance, Please be considerate of others. If I say,'' please be considerate to others'' my sentence is wrong. If not do both sentences have the same meaning?

Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure it's wrong exactly but in the context you describe "considerate to others" would be very odd sounding.
