I have seen in some books that they have used WERE with HE/SHE/IT.. I want to know why is that?? Because those are singular and normally using WAS..
ex: If she WERE the only girl in the world..
He acted though he WERE a little child..

please help me with this..

Yes. That would be the subjunctive mood. It is used in unreal statements and in demands and a few others.

If I were rich, I wouldn't be working in this awful job. (I'm not rich)
I wish I were rich.
I wish she were here to celebrate my birthday. (She is not here.)

If I were you, I would study harder. (I'm not you.)
If he were handsome, girl

dilshiIs' it a major grammatical crime when saying "I wish I was rich"??
No, it's not.
Many people say this, because the subjunctive mood is declining in everyday speech.
It is one of the changes that the English language is experiencing.

One more question..
Before finished a telephone conversation with some one if that person cut the line, then after some time how can I ask this:
'Why did you cut the line?' OR 'Why you cut the line?' What is grammatically correct and is there any other way to ask such a thing??

How about this one:

She hung up on me.

and the question would be:

Why did you hang up on me?
Why have you hung up on me?

dilshi'Why did you cut the line?' OR 'Why you cut the line?' What is grammatically correct and is there any other way to ask such a thing??
If I suspect it was an accident, I say "We got disconnected."
The other person might say: "Sorry I accidentally hit eh wrong button." or "My battery ran out." or "I went out of range of the cell phone service service."
