Be + an adjective + of + a noun

A. 1. What is true of the woman?

B. 1. I'm proud of you.
2. He is afraid of swimming.
3. The Kids are very fond of the puppy.
4. I'm confident of physical labor.
5. We are short of cash.
6. He is critical of what you make.
7. Sailors are patient of hardships.
8. I'm nervous of the exam.

I think "of + noun equivalents"s of category B are used as the objects of the adjectives, but I don't think "of the woman" is the object of "true" in #1.
So, I'd like to know what role "of the woman" plays in #1.
And I'd like to know the adjectives that belong to category A.
Thank you in advance for your help.

(A) is asking what fact about the woman is true, or something similar. In a loosish sense (in the sense that the adjective describes a property of the object of "of"), you could say that usages like "that's good/generous/etc. of you" are closer to (A) than to the examples in (B).

  • of you" are closer to (A) than to the examples in (B).
  • However, I'm not sure they are exactly analogous.
  • Right now I cannot think of any exactly analogous usage with another adjective, but of course this does not mean that none exist.

I would paraphrase it as 'What is true about the woman?'—if that helps.
