Vocabulary

be absorbed in

HAMARU
Literally 'fall into...'. Quite a slangish
word for 'be absorbed in'.
"He has fallen into Karaoke."
"He has fallen into computer games."
They seem to work. Do they? Someone has fallen
into something and cannot get out of the habit.
Are there some other slang expressions in English?
Thank you.

" "Addicted" is used most often, along with drug references for certain games known for their addictive qualities. EverQuest is often referred to as EverCrack. "Got into" is a milder version.

In English, "fallen into/fell into" is more often used when someone finds something by chance, or because it is easy: "Why do you work at the supermarket?" "I needed money while I was in school, I sort of just fell into it."

Another possibility--

He has been (or gotten) sucked into computer games.

He's into Karaoke.
He's into computer games.

"to be into" is a slang term for "to be very interested in / absorbed in"

What are you into? is the question form to ask someone about their interests.

Yes, that's what I was thinking of... to be into something.

'Sucked into' suggests a circumstance a little more relevant to the particular notion of not being able to escape the habit. 'Absorbed in', or 'be into', or 'be very interested in' do not carry such connotations.

Another way of saying 'addicted to' is 'hooked on'. 'He's hooked on computer games.'
