Be about to

How would you describe "be about to"?
For example: I'm about to discover the iPad secrets.

You're doing this right now, but....
When do we use it?

Is it right if I say:
I'm about to write here.
I'm about to ask a question.
I'm about to type a sentence in.
I'm about to go.
I'm about to finish.
