Hi.

I am able to go.

What's the form and function of the underlined part? Is it an auxiliary verb complementing go?

Am is the main verb in the sentence. There is no auxiliary verb. Able is an adjective. It is like this sentence:

I am happy to go. 
"To go" explains the reason I am happy.

No. Anyway, auxiliary verbs can't be the complements of the verbs that come next in a sentence. If anything, it's the other way around, and 'to go' is the complement of 'able'.
