Batch or batches?

Female mosquitoes need blood to develop their batch/batches of fertile eggs.
In the sentence, which word should we use, batch or batches? Or are both correct?

I assume each mosquito may produce more than one batch in its lifetime. If so, I'd say 'batches'.
