How is this written?

His shot has no arch. Considering he has only his middle finger to get rotation on the ball when he realease his shot, it's understandable.

Both are technically acceptable. The second sentence is more explicit, though so depending on the context in which you are using it, it may be the wiser choice.

Sidenote:

"...release his shot" should be written, "releases his shot." However, in my opinion there is dramatic aesthetic improvement by replacing the whole phrase with "shoots."
