Basketball?

Question

Some time ago, I determined that writers prefer watching baseball to watching football. My hypothesis was that baseball tends to support the narcissistic fantasy that one person can accomplish something whereas football tends to expose the reality that accomplishments require teamwork and cooperation.
Now I want to know about basketball. Heck, all sports. Here's what I'd like: List the top few sports you enjoy watching, in order. And don't screw it up with any cracks about wet t-shirts or mudwrestling. (Speaking of which, googling the word "pudding" with other select words nets good results. Speaking of which, Viagra and Cialis cause blindness and people are surprised. What are they going to announce next? Hairy palms? I mean, come on, didn't we already know Viagra and Cialis could lead to blindness, at least when used ... you know ... alone?)

Women's Beach Volleyball ranks number 1, of course. It's an Olympic sport so don't tell me it's not Real. And let's face it; it's the sport for the guy who really doesn't give a *** about sports.
After that... Hockey, soccer and tennis. Football is okay to watch, but I wouldn't go out of my way. Baseball doesn't even make the list for me.

Last I checked, unless the pitcher strikes out all 27 batters, which still requires another player, baseball is very much a team sport...

Baseball. Period. In particular, the Yankees.
(though, instead of "enjoyable", this year it's been "ulcer-inducing".) (great last 3 games, though...)
I can and do watch many other sports, but not religiously, and not with the same kind of enjoyment I get as when I watch a baseball game (even if it's not NY).
I do have a few other "faves", though, and they're pretty non-standard and might surprise some of my friends if they knew. I wrestled in high school, so I love watching real wrestling (i.e. collegiate) when it's on. I never played tennis, but I love watching tennis. Don't know why... Can't and won't watch golf to save my life. I like strong man contests. A couple of weeks ago while in Kauai for work I got re-addicted to collegiate women's softball. Those chicks rock! Every four years I am a nutjob for the Summer Olympics I'll watch whatever's on.

Ok, I'm rambling...
To sum up: baseball. That's it.

I have just determined that basketball is a terrible sport to write to. It moves so damned intense that you miss everything if you miss a minute. Football at least rising action on the drives. Even with long passes and interceptions, you've got plenty of notice from the crowd and lots of replays. Basketball's so quick that they play's over by the time the crowd gets excited and the replays are few because the next play begins without delay. And baseball you know when you've got bases loaded or a big hitter up. With that and the replays, it's hard to miss anything. But basketball ... moves too damned quick.

Okay, half time. I'm going to DQ. Wait here.

I'm really not much for spectator sports at all. I enjoy the ones with some art to them - gymnastics, fencing, maybe the occasional tennis match, but most of it seems so pointless and egotistical that it turns me off.

1) NFL Football. Easily the most complex sport around, with 100 differentthings happening (okay, really about 22 different things, 21 when Randy Moss gives up and just stands there) on every - single - play. Of course, I can't claim such lofty academic reasons for watching it; I watch it because I was raised on it, a Dolphin fan born in the thick of the 1972 Perfect Season down in Miami. I bleed teal. It's not pretty.
2) College Football. Even amateur (tho' college football is basicallysemi-pro at this point) football is preferable than any other pro sport to me. Same reason as above. The Hurricanes shall rise again...
3) Professional Boxing. Though in recent years I've had a hard time gettingas deeply into it as I used to be, but I appreciate the sport. During those months when I'm actually trying to be in shape and go to the gym, I take boxing and jiujitsu lessons, and I marvel at the speed, precision, and endurance of these athletes.
4) UFC. See #3 for reasoning.

Never got into baseball or basketball, though I'll watch and root for the Heat when they're in town or in the playoffs (ooh, if Wade hadn't been injured... but he was, so I'll stop complaining), and though I dug hockey when I was in college, I forgot about it as soon as I came out west.

Oh, I happen to love watching World's Strongest Man and Lumberjack competitions on ESPN2. Come to think of it, I like all those weird one-off sports... I saw a fantastic program a few years ago in which waiters from around the country (read: actual waiters, not aspiring actors) competed in a series of very physical events meant to test their abilities at a number of tasks that were only tangentially related to waiter-ing, but were, in any case, highly entertaining.
Oh, and billiards if that Asian chick is playing...

Starting with fave:
(1) Soccer (what I would call Football, being a Brit) (2) Tennis
(3) Snooker
(4) World Darts
(5) Rowing
(6) Athletics
(7) Figure skating
(8) Handball
(9) Horseracing
(10) Volleyball (esp beach, but not for pervvy reasons) ;-)

can't think of any other sports I'd be interested in. I have a passing interest in rugby but only important internationals involving England. Football (errm "soccer" to you) is everything. I have loads of satellite channels so I can watch shedloads of it. I was watching African matches the other day, absolutely brilliant. I'll watch any footie game. I am a Valencia fan (Spanish team) but I also go to games of Barking and East Ham United which is in East London about seven divisions down. Lovely!! I travel all over Europe supporting Valencia as well.
