Hello teachers,
So a couple of guys have hit a guy and I go there to enquire so is it right to ask,
"Who hit him in the first place?"
Another Example,
"Who picked up the call in the first place?"

Imagine this context.
In a bar. Tom is lying on the floor, unconscious. A policeman comes and asks what happened.
A customer says that someone hit Tom. Then all of the customers start talking about a big fight that ensued, where everyone was hitting everyone else.
The policeman says 'Who hit Tom in the first place?'
