Based on the small print/accept....

Hi

I was talking to the sherpas and told them that the deals would be done or undone based on the small print. I asked them to look up from the numbers, look up from the statistics and try to imagine a different future where we didn't accept that a disease like malaria was with us and there was nothing we could do about it.

1. Does it mean that decisions would either be taken or not and they would be written down on a piece of paper?

2. Is he saying he wanted them to imagine a world in which people would pretend that there is no such an illness and finally (because all the people around would be passive) it would be too late to do anything about it, to fight with it?

I hope these two sentences are from separate sources, they certainly make no sense when juxtaposed like this. So, working on the assumption that they are unrelated.
