I read this online:
The Mabel-Canton Cougars, based off state rankings, were technically the lesser underdog versus W-K.

Is it correct? What do you think about 'lesser'?

In American English, the more natural sentence is:

The Mabel-Canton Cougars, based on state rankings, were technically a lesser underdog than W-K.
I have no problem with "lesser underdog."
