Basalt columns

If you search basalt columns, most of the results are about geological formations that resemble columns. What I am trying to learn is whether basalt is or has been widely used to make architectural columns a la Acropolis. Google images has disappointingly few pctures of basalt columns, and there's no way of telling whether they are full columns or miniatures, as on clocks, etc. Anyone into basalt around here?

Dear Electrum, Perhaps what you are trying to learn is to what extent basalt was used as a building material in ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. In ancient Rome basalt was put to many uses including street pavers. It was used extensively throughout the Roman Empire in a variety of construction purposes such as stadium seating.
