Barrel along

Hi,

'To barrel along' means to move quickly (sometimes in an uncontrolled manner). Could you tell me if it can be used in the two examples below?

1)"The bus barrelled along the road so I had to hold on tight not to fall face forward."

2)"The beginning of the film was a bit tedious but then the plot started to barrel along." (not sure if it works in this case) I'm trying to say that the plot got interesting and that a lot of things started happening.

Thank you.
