Barn VS stable

What is the difference between barn and stable?

Top answer

In my experience, a stable is a roofed enclosure specifically to house livestock. A barn can be that too, but it might be used for storing feed and farm implements. " Sometimes a barn will stable dairy cattle on the ground floor, and have feed up above in the hay mow, to be dropped down a chute.

"Out behind the barn" sounds better than "out behind the stable."

I think stable is a British English version and barn is American English
