Wonder no more. It's fine. It means it's very difficult to see her. Maybe she's standing behind someone else in a photo and very little of her is visible. So don't confuse it with "I barely ever see her". (I seldom see her. / I don't see her very often.)

That said, I'm sure that some people use "I barely see her" to mean "I barely ever see her", so even without "ever" you'll be understood if the context is right.

In my experience "hardly" is used much more than "barely". The meaning is the same.
