Grammar

Bare infinitive vs. to infinitive

Hi!
I read the following grammar question in a TOEIC test:

"Dr.Teitelbaum asked his assistant ______ the reprot for tomorrow morining's meeting.

(A) type
(B) will type
(C) was typing
(D) to type

(Answer: D)"

I agree with the above that D is correct, but how about A, "type"?
If we understand the original sentence as following, I think A is (also) correct:

"Dr.Teitelbaum asked (that) his assistant (should) ______ the reprot for tomorrow morining's meeting."

What do you think? Am I wrong?
Thanks in advance.
