The chart gives information regarding how many hours that adolescents in Chester spent on seven activities each week in six years from 2002 to 2007.
Overall, teenagers spent most of their time watching television over the period given whereas the least amount of time was spent on bowling. They became less favoured in bowling, doing homework, as well as sports, due to a steady decline in hours dedicated to these pursuits, except for watching DVD’s which saw an oscillation. Going to pubs and discos, watching television, and shopping all witnessed an increase in the number of hours spent on these activities.
In terms of watching television, the number of hours saw a significant rise up to 40 hours in 2007 compared to only 25 hours in 2002. Going to pubs and discos, and shopping, the amount of time was more than doubled in the final year, from around 10 to over 15 and from above 5 to exactly 15 respectively.
Experiencing an inverse trend, teenagers occupied more than 10 hours in doing homework in 2002, but this dropped to slightly above 5 in the final year. Similarly, doing sports also witnessed a steady decline to around 1 hour as opposed to its 2002’s statistics, which was 10. The hours spent on bowling dramatically fell from around 5 to almost none hitherto 2007, moreover, throughout the entire period watching DVDs had the same amount of time in the first and final year at 10 hours after reaching a peak of nearly 20 in 2004.
