What is a bar card? Is it a card that indicates that you are a lawyer?

I suppose it is something like a driver's license - it is the state's authorization for you to practice law in that state. htm

Actually I don't believe there is any such thing as a "bar card." The author is just being cute here, referring to a license to practice law as "bar card." The origin of this is the fact that lawyers licensed to practice law in a state are referred to as "members of the bar (association)."
