Bang went the gun

The following come from my English reference book.
1. The gun went bang.
2. Bang went the gun.

I know in #1 "go" means "make a sound."
So I was wondering how #2 is structured.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I would be inclined to write this as "'Bang!' went the gun."
That said, writers (and occasionally speakers) sometimes change the normal word order to emphasize a particular word. Here "BANG!" is emphasized.
