Baking or being backer

"stir the sauce while the cake is being baked in the oven"
or

"stir the sauce while the cake is baking in the oven"

im not quite sure which one is correct, but I think the latter is wrong because its like saying the cake is baking something.

Either is acceptable. Bake can be used as a transitive verb (it has an object) or as an intransitive verb (no object). I am baking a cake. The cake is baking.

You could also just say, "Stir the sauce while the cake is in the oven."
