Baited breadth, five-year leap

On Thursday night fans of TV's most popular show Balika Vadhu waited with baited breath for a glimpse of the grown-up Anandi, the show's protagonist.
For those not familiar with the popular show on Colors, the show took a five-year leap which meant that the young protagonist played by teen Avika Gor got replaced by an older actor, Pratyusha Banerjee.

Please explain to me what "baited breath" and "five-year leap" means here.

Ok, 'baited breath' is wrong - it should be 'bated breath'. To 'bait' is to try to catch something by offering it something - like you 'bait' a hook for fish, or a trap for animals, etc. 'Bated' is like 'abated' - stopped.

It just means that the show missed out 5 years of story time.

So, for example, the show was about a character called John who was 15 years old and played by actor A.

Then suddenly (for example, in the next series, screened a month later) the character "John" was 20 years old - so the makers had to use a new actor to play the character, because actor A still looked 15. They had
