0 I agree with Grammar Geek, rather than Anonymous # 1 or Anonymous # 2. To me, "purse" and handbag" are synonymous; neither one is smaller than the other. If you want to indicate something tiny that just holds coins you would call it a coin purse. If you want to talk about something smaller and fancier than a purse or handbag you could call it an "evening bag" -- just big enough for a coin
