How to say this in proper English, that something got me into a bad habit, made me start a bad habit or I got possessed by this bad habit.

For example.

Back in the time I was fatty, I started eating Pan(betel leaf and nut) to avoid fast food and street oily food, now I used to eat once in 3 days now I eat 1 daily, so basically it made me cause or possess this habit. In how many ways I can say that?
