Bad advice

Hi,

Do you know of any idiom or phrase that means "bad advice"? For instance, "poisoned chalice" is something that looks good to have initially but which turns out to be a liability. Can you think of a similar term for "bad advice"? Thank you.

Hi

My dad would have said: I've been given a bad steer

And it is still in common use. Here it is in reference to a cafe in Cornwall

Thank you. This is very helpful. In connection to your suggestion, I've heard people say: "I won't steer you wrong."

If anyone can think of a more formal or literary expression, I'd love to learn of it, too. Thank you.
