Shafiul Islam to Gambhir, no run, Gambhir drives it down the ground, Shafiul Islam bends down and looks to stop the ball, Dravid was backing up a long way, no evidence whether Shafiul Islam got a finger on that, he is the one who can say the best!

Could you please explain to me what "back up" means in this context?

It is also a sentence uttered by a cricket commentary.

I think here :

Shaiful = bowler
Gambhir = batsman(on strike)
Dravid = runner
