back of the beach

A bit further down, we found this pleasant seaside cafe just at the back of the beach.

What's the meaning of "at the back of the beach"? Which part of a beach is considered 'back'?
Thanks.

I haven't heard this formulation before. I suspect it's an idiosyncratic usage that just means "out of the way" or maybe "relatively far from the water but still on the beach."
