Vocabulary

Back-and-forth as a noun

Hi

Would you say the underlined part gives sufficient meaning when there is no further context? I heard it in an interview.

A- How would you describe your relationship with her?

B- With unnecessary back-and-forths.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

It isn't particularly easy to understand that reply. e. describing the manner in which the speaker would reply.

It isn't particularly easy to understand that reply. To me it seems to be, for whatever reason, deliberately not answering the question that was obviously intended, but instead answering "how" literally, i.e. describing the manner in which the speaker would reply. But, as I say, it is not very clear.
