Baby No. 2

Hello!

I have a question. Do people call their second offspring Baby No. 2 in English?

Thank you very much

Context is everything. My daughter had just turned two when we learned that baby number two was on the way. -- This would not be a very odd thing to say.

  • Context is everything.

  • However "I need to drop baby number two off at daycare" would be a bit odd.
  • I often refer to mine as Thing 1 and Thing 2, as an homage to The Cat in the Hat.

Thanks a lot Grammer Geek. Well, about the contexy of this one, I shall say it's a 'dedication'. The author writes:

"To Baby No. 2: For keeping me company while I was writing this book."

What do you think now?

That would sound very odd to me, unless the author was pregnant during the process of writing and Baby Number Two didn't yet have an identity of her own.

Yes that's one possibility and that's very likely.

Thank you Grammar Geek. I'm really grateful.
