Awkward sentence

While eco-tax may be able to change the direction of the capitalist zeitgeist, the conservatives’ manifesto pledges to secure the UK’s energy supplies by nuclear proliferation; whereas the Liberal Democrats’ manifesto favours wind farms in rejection of it.

I don't like the 'of it' at the end.
