Awkward expression

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding 'awkward expression'.

'The first strategy is to foster supportive relationship with people around.'

I wrote this sentence in my essay and was pointed out this expression is awkward. I checked resources online but still confused about it. I am wondering if anyone would like to help me clarify my query? Thank you in advance!

Yeru Li I wrote this sentence in my essay and was pointed out this expression is awkward. I wouldn't call it awkward, but it could be better expressed, and it does have one definite error. I suggest: The first strategy is to foster a supportive relationship with others.
